The carbon felt will become graphite felt by processing under more than 2000 degrees high temperature treatment in the vacuum or inert atmosphere, the carbon content is higher than the carbon felt, it can be up to more than 99%.
Both of graphite felt and carbon felt can be used as thermal insulation materials.
The carbon felt has more than 90% of the porosity, while the carbon fiber can withstand high temperature reached 1000 degrees Celsius in the vacuum or inert gas protection, so it can work in high temperature environment. the heat insulation performance of carbon felt is very superior. The carbon fiber felt is widely used in high temperature industry because of its low density, small linear expansion coefficient, low thermal capacity, small thermal conductivity, high temperature resistance, heat shock resistance and so on.The carbon felt has become the preferred heat insulating material because of the high working temperature, it¡¯s the excellent thermal insulation material for the vacuum metallurgical industrial furnace and other equipments .
The carbon fiber mainly has two kinds of raw materials, PAN based and Rayon based. These two kinds of materials have its advantages, the PAN based material has the advantages such as light, flexible, good flexibility, high carbon content, high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance and small thermal conductivity. And the Rayon based material has more better thermal insulation and ablation resistance.
The PAN based graphite felt is more strong than the Rayon based graphite felt and has strong oxidation resistance, but poor flexibility, volume density, good insulation properties. They have the advantages of high purity, high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, non melting and so on, but also can be flexible, can be folded, cut and can be used with graphite yarn stitching and so on. Graphite felt is mainly used as the thermal insulation materials for the single crystal silicon smelting furnace. In the chemical industry can be used as a filter material of high purity corrosive chemical reagents. Under the condition of non oxidizing atmosphere, the application temperature of graphite felt is up to 3000¡æ. |
